How to install flash installer in portable firefox

With each version of flash installer

The two required files get placed in different folders

The latest version is version number 10

Install the version 10 in the hard drive

open the folder

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash

Look for these files

flashplayer.xpt
NPSwf32.dll

If you put the cursor on these files it will show

version 10.0.12.36

copy both the files and place them in

the plugin folder of the portable firefox.

I am using portable firefox version 3.1

In it you have to place them in this folder

J:\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\plugins

Actually you will find several plugin folders

J is the drive path for my portable drive

yours might be different

Actually it is rather simple as long as you are aware of where

to look for those two files and in which folder to put them in

keep in mind in the portable firefox folder you might find two or there

plugin subfolders

Hope this info helps someone

E. M. Free collage maker

It is a free software that allows you to create collages

What are its features

You can select the size of collage canvas

You can add images, frames, masks, special effects on images, and add backgrounds

The background picture has to be 1024*768

The frame has to be png file

The mask is a specially created jpg file

Keep in mind it is a freeware

It is buggy

It can crash easily after saving a file

If you move the framed file fast it might disappear

Once you apply the frame or mask the picture within can't be moved

However it works and allows you to create nice collages

Once you have the frames placed in the proper places you can save it as a template

Save the project often

Once you are finished you can save it as an image file

Yes it works, it is fun

Enjoy it

SDHC memory Cards and video filming in digital cameras

Buy quality SDHC cards

Use them in digital cameras that were produced in 2007 or later
HC cards have capacity greater than 2GB

Keep in mind though they can hold thousands of pictures with each click on the
video mode it will store only up to 2 GB per file size

Every time you click it will store up to 2 GB

So depending on the size of the video ( 320*240 or 640*480 or 840*480 or 1280*720)
the length in minutes of the video file will change per one continuous
click ( it won't be greater than 2 GB in size). However it will be recorded in whole memory card

Beware of the SanDisk Micro cruzer with U3 technologies

SanDisk flash drive is a good flash drive

However the U3 technology could give a variety of problems

1. Sometimes the u3 launchpad can get corrupted

In that case you can't operate the flash drive. You have re-install the
launch pad. During that process you may or may not be able to backup the
data.

2. If you enable the security with the use of password, you won't be able to
install it . you can't even format it. The flash drive may become useless
unless you uninstall the u3 and format it

3. The best thing is to get rid of the u3 launch pad

4. Sometimes it may not load up in some computers

So my suggestion based on my experience is not to mess with u3 technology at all

However, I do like SanDisk minus U3 technology

Do you want to write in Unicode Tamil in computer in Webmail and Weblog?

I assume you have windows XP

If you have a computer with an earlier OS you might want to switch to XP

Here are the things you have to do

1. Enable your computer to use Unicode

How

How to Enable Tamil in Windows XP?

If you are having Windows XP OS and are having problem viewing the Tamil fonts in ThamiZha,
then you have to enable Indic support. Doing so is quite simple, actually.
Just follow the simple steps mentioned below.

1) keep your XP installation CD at hand. (If you have misplaced yours, or if you have lost it,
please get one from your friend, or relative, or someone you know.)

2) Click Start > Control Panel.

3) Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.

4) Now, click Regional and language Options.

5) In the Supplemental Language support, Check the "Install files for Complex Script
and right to left languages (including Thai) ", and then click Apply.

6) If you hadn't yet inserted the Win XP installation CD into your CD-ROM drive,
An alert will appear to ask you to insert the installation CD. Insert the CD and then click OK.
After the installation, your system will restart for proper operation

7) That's all... now your computer is enabled for Tamil Unicode.

Now downlaod NHM writer from this site

http://software.nhm.in/Products/NHMWriter/tabid/55/Default.aspx

This writer allows you to enter Tamil in 4 different keyboard styles

I prefer the phonetic ( Alt+2)

Open Word and select Latha font

Type away in Tamil

Subscribe to Google account (free)

Open the text box and simply type

Same thing with blogger website

That is all to it

It is that simple

If you need help go to the following sites

Gmail's voice and video chat

Here is my early experience of v&v for Gmail

Google announced the inclusion of voice and video chat for Gmail on Nov 11.

To make it work , first you need to have a gmail account

a good webcam ( I like Logitech's Quickcam pro 9000) with a built-in mike and an external speaker

or anyone of the headsets ( since it is video I don't like something hanging over my head)

Then download the v&v plug-in from this site

http://mail.google.com/videochat

After you install it, it will force close your browser and restart it

Now get back to Gmail

You need to make some changes

Click on the settings link near the top

and then click on chat link

Then set your settings for webcam, mike and speaker

If everything is set right and if you click on verify settings you should see your own video

Under contacts

Open the chat list

Find the person you want to have v&v chat

Click on the name

Click on chat

It will open text chat

Click on the diagonal arrow (pop out)

Then click on video and more

If the receiver had video and voice chat plugin

You will see the options for it

Enjoy

Please note:

If only one party has the webcam then the receiving party has to initiate the

video request

Indy Ram

My first impression

It is nice and clear

It apparently uses flash video

the video transmission is of high speed ( Maybe 25 fps)

This is the only service that allows two computers that are connected via

the router at home can operate v&v chat

I have to figure out how to record the video for later viewing

DVD for wide screen TV

I assume you know how to make a 720*480 DVD with aspect ratio
of 4:3. However if you watch such a movie in a large screen TV
it will look out of proportion

So the best way to do is to get a movie or slide show cropped into 1.77 aspect ratio
(16:9) and burn it .

Most of the still pictures you take with digital cameras have 4:3 aspect ratio
Most of the movies you take are also in 4:3 ration

you need to crop them first and then make a movie with 16:9 ( 720*480)
aspect ratio

Good luck

Installing Windows XP

How to install Windows XP Operating system

Ram S. Ravindran

When your computers slow down a lot or infected with virus, maleware or
browser hijacker the only thing that will correct all the problems is wiping
out clean the primary C hard drive and by installing the operating software
all over again.

When you think of it, it will scare you. But it can be done. I have done it
4 times.

First thing you have to do is to locate the original operating system disk,
the driver disk and the applications disk.

Transfer all the important data files from C drive (word docs, publisher pub
files, PowerPoint (ppt) video, mp3 files to the other hard drives or to an
external drive. Likewise export your browser favorites, email address book,
emails, to the other drives.

Unplug the scanner, printer, webcam, and USB extensions from the computer.

Put the operating system disk in the first optical drive and turn the
computer off and then on

When it reboots it will ask you whether you want to boot from the CD and if
so /press any key

Press the enter key

Then it will ask you whether you want to setup windows press enter

Then it will show the agreement and warn you to say that you can have only
one copy per computer. It will ask you to press F8

Then press Esc

Then it will show you the drives and partitions where you can install the
operating system

Select the C drive

Select to delete the partition

Press D and then L to confirm deleting the partition

After you delete the partition you will be presented with the full capacity
of C drive as unpartitioned. You can decide on the new size of the partition
and install the operating system in the new partition or you can install it
in the unpartitioned C drive. Make sure you don’t partition the other hard
drives other than C drive

When you partition a drive it will wipe out all the contents of the drive.

It will prompt you to choose the file system

Enter NTFS (quick)

It will then format the drive

Then it will install the necessary files from the OS disk

After it installs the files it will turn off and then re-boot

Now you will see the Windows screen

Then it will prompt you for the region and language

If you live in the USA select the default

Then it will ask you to enter your name and your organization’s name

You can leave the organization name blank

If the disk came with your system it will place the product key for you.

If you had bought the disk separately, it will ask you to enter the product
key number

It is a 25 digit alphanumeric number

Then it will provide you a name for the computer or you can modify it to
your liking

After that it may ask you to enter a password

Then it will ask you the time zone and GMT difference of your locality

Then it will ask you modem dialing number

Then it will install the network components and ask you to choose the
settings

Select the typical settings. You can modify it later.

Then it will continue with the settings

After that it will set up the display setting

Now insert the driver CD

Select all the drivers

It will install one after another all the drivers for many things like the
CPU, the USB, video drivers, audio drivers, phone, and many more

After that you can adjust the screen display to set at 32 bit display and
1024*768

Make sure you install the virus software

Then access the Internet after you connect the computer to the modem

You might want to access the Microsoft website to download all the upgrades

Then you may want to install the service pack 2

After that you might want to install the applications from the application
disk

You might want to install the usual software like

The latest Windows media player

Adobe PDF reader

Then install the printer, scanner and Web drivers and connect them to the
computer

Now you should have a brand new computer that runs smoothly.

If you have an external drive, you can clone your hard drive for your future
use.

If you do that then you don’t have to go through the hassle of installing
the Windows operating system again. They say it is better to re-install the
operating system every 2 years.

Go north on it till it reaches I 80/94 WB at exit 10
Go west on it and follow 394 north or 94 N to go to Chicago

Running a server from your personal computer

It is very tempting to be able to run a variety of servers from your
personal computer that is connected to the Internet via DSL or Cable

The freely available servers include

Unreal media server
Unreal live server
VNC server

To use these servers you have to know a few basic things

First it is nice to have a fixed IP address
Then you should know how to create an opening in the router firewalls

The router firewall is generally accessed by using a web browser
and entering the address Http://192.168.2.1

Look for virtual servers
Make an opening for the server port

In the windows firewall make an exception for the server exe files

Then you have to find out the Wide Area IP address of your computer
This may change every day if it is not a fixed IP address

If you have two or three computers connected to your router
you may have to figure out for variouss

subaddresses

Enjoy

How to make VNC server/client work

VNC server is a freeware server for personal use

Say you want to help out a friend or relative who is not
as good as you are in computing matters.

Run the server in his computer
He has to have a broadband connection
You can disable the windows firewall in his computer
Or you can keep it
Just get into control panel-Windows security-windows firewall
Click on the exceptions tab and add VNC server
What it does is open a port for the software
Run the server program and set the password for you to
use to connect to that computer
Now you can run the VNC client in your computer
or use tight VNC client and control his computer

Suppose if your friend has a router then you can have
him temporarily turn off the router
Unplug the wire that goes from the modem to the
router and unplug the wire (RJ 47) that goes from
router to the modem and connect it to the modem

Essentially you bypass the router

however if you still want to have the router
then you have to create an opening in the router
firewall software by creating a virtual server opening
for the port 5900
The way to create an opening for the port 5900 Vused by VNC server)
varies from one router to another
You sort of look in the manual and do it
or you can call the router manufacturer to help you do it

Explain to them that you want to run a sever
behind the router firewall and that server uses the port 5900
Then they will be able to help you

I know how to set up Belkin router

I hope this info is helpful to you all

It took me a several hours of trial and error to nail it

How to outdo Apple's Ipod

Electronic companies like Sony, Sandisk, Creative Labs, Philips, Samsung, Microsoft

all want to sell their Mp3 players. They all attempt to take the market share and business

away from Apple's Ipod

I have looked at the features offered by the competitors

They all want to compete only on price

For example Apple's 4 GB sells for $150

All other companies want to sell it for under $100

For that price they have to offer equal or better features
Unfortunately they don't

What are some features they could offer

1. Easily replaceable re-chargeable batteries
2. The screen resolution similar to or better than Apple's IPOD has 256K
It is importnat to have that high or better resolution to see details of the pictures ( the competitors offer only 64 k) and 320*240
3. A bigger screen (3" or higher) something like ITOUCH
4. Bluetooth connectivity ( yes Samsung's and Insignia's)
5. Inclusion of FM radio ( which most of the others have ) is a good feature
IPOD doesn't have it
6. A good quality buit-in speaker
7. Ability to continue to listen or watch TV while it
is being charged. some of them when you connect to the
the power source they turn off ( Philips)

Some of them don't even offer AC adapter

8. When you connect the Mp3 player to the computer
It should show up as a drive so that other files can be put on it.
using it as a storage device is very useful
9. Ability to synch with outlook or another synchable program to download contacts and simple text documents
10.Hotspot connection with home routers
11. Two speaker outlets on two sides
12. Longer battery life ( Sony offers that)

These are the ways they can compete with Apple's Ipod

Is it a tall order?

I would like to hear comments from other Mp3 owners
